I had made a post a couple weeks back concerning some I-beams I had observed atop the early ‘Educatorium’ (1992) and Kunsthal (1997) by OMA. I had studied the Maison Bordeaux (1998) back in my first undergraduate year, and I learned about this weird addition to the house and its importance in holding it all together.
However, in these earlier cases, the rooftop beams appear to be only decoration. I would like to look into this more and see if this is the case. Could be a wink at Mies Van der Rohe, although these REALLY seem out of place.
